Now, there are elements that can work that can be there just to be there, and it be cathartic, gives you a sense of familiarity, (I don't get why people are so cheesed off by the idea Scoots being adopted by RD, it provides plenty of conflict and drama and character growth and heart warming: Scoot's idol becoming her authority figure, and RD's fan girl becoming her RESPONSIBILITY), but there are some things that simply DOWNGRADE THE CHARACTER! And they often happen the most often, when the writers THINKS they're being original, not realizing that every fanfic writer thought the same thing (I admit I'm guilty of the same thing).

The cliche that I wish to ask about your own encounters today is: 'Discord not being the 'real' spirit of chaos and we're introduced to the REAL force of chaos.' This happens most often in crossovers EVEN BEFORE he became a non-evil character. Discord is swept aside so Unicron and Majora, (or the author's OC lovecraft abomination) can be the 'real' spirit of chaos, and even Discord reduced to a mere pawn or minion of chaos if allowed to be that!

What are your experiences with this cliche?

I can't remember that cliche but one that I did notice from time to time was the Discord was NEVER a villain to begin with and he was either just fighting against the evil Celestia or his actions are painted retroactively as evil.

That is almost impossible to pull off since Discord was clearly EVIL in his premiere, he utterly enjoyed the suffering of others.

I don't really get why anybody would want to replace him as the spirit of chaos if he not only pulls that off very well but there are plenty of other aspects like evil or fate that you can combine with other villains. Or how about something creative like having a villain with a "good aspect" like life?
